1. Why should I document my possessions? There are
a number of reasons. First and foremost is to ensure that you receive the proper
monies from your insurance company if a natural disaster strikes or you are the victim of theft. Statistics
show we only can remember about 60% of all the real property we own. If your home is destroyed, could
you make a complete list of the contents? We can.
2. I heard insurance only pays depreciated value on my possessions,
is this true? Yes and No. Your insurance policy dictates the payment amount. There are many different
policies to choose from, some cheaper and some quite expensive. Your best information
source is your insurance agent. You should update your policies at least once a year in regards to
home or business insurance or you may be in for a big surprise.
3. Can I do this myself? Of course, but you may
find that you do not have the correct forms or the information the insurance
companies require. It also can be time consuming. Check our packages out and you'll see how inexpensive
it is to have it done by a professional company that can get in and out and
do this following the guidelines of FEMA and your local insurance company.
4. Can I make an inventory list? Sure. But you can't
prove your ownership for the most part unless you have all your receipts for
everything in you home that has value. Don't forget jewelery. You need photos and receipts and
appraisals for all these items.
5. How long does this process take? It depends on the amount of
inventory you have in your home or business. Our pricing packages gives you an estimate of the time
factors.
6. I don't
need to do this, it always happens to the other guy. Statistics show that sometime in your life span,
you will be the other guy. Are you willing to play the odds with your future or
your family's?
7. I have
a policy that covers the contents of my home for $50K, I'm safe, right? Not necessarily, read the
fine print or better yet, ask your agent. Usually, that amount covers only the
possessions you can prove you had. Also that policy may depreciate the cost of the item in comparison
to today's replacement cost.
8. Should this be a priority item on my to do list? Only if you want
to replace all your needed possessions in case you happen to become the other guy. Insurance companies
have strict guidelines that cover replacement and the actual monies you will
receive for certain items which may or may not be enough to replace the item in today's market
place. Read your policy or contact your agent. We all assume that what we purchase
is face value, but most of the time we overlook the fine print.
9. I'm still not convinced that this is necesary.
